JUNIOR SYSTEMS DESIGNER
Have you been either working in or around smart home systems for a few years? Have you been trying to master a bunch of DIY products on your own? Does one-touch control of a whole bunch of stuff make you feel excited and powerful? We get it. We’re looking for a beginner residential AV systems designer for luxury homes. This means that no matter the level you’ve been side hustling at, you’re ready to go pro. You want to know everything about this world. Your interest in learning about new technologies and how they can delight, engage, and improve our client’s lives should be annoyingly insatiable. And yes, ideally you’d have at least 2 years’ experience designing, installing or selling a broad range of integrated AV and other smart home systems. But most importantly, we’re looking for someone with a demonstrable understanding of our world, a fearless spirit and monster appetite for hard work.
Essential Job Function
A Cantara Systems Designer will be planning and designing proposals and other supporting documentation around Home Automation, Audio, Video, Networks, Security, Shading, Lighting & CCTV systems. This person will be working in partnership with our sales team to help envision every aspect of a project.
Duties & Responsibilities
In compliance with Company policies, procedures, standards, guidelines as well as applicable federal, state, and local law, codes and regulations, a Systems Designer will:
Maintain excellent customer relations
Embody company design philosophy and standards, as well as create and communicate specific project plans
Have excellent email and communication skills
Help the Sales Team meet company goals
Interface with Vendor Sales / Specifier
Interface with Sales Team and sometimes Clients
Be a reliable and efficient knowledge base on Product Specification
Have a strong understanding of house plans
Create Executive Summaries (SOW’s)
Create line-item proposals and other project documentation
Understand how to incorporate changes of scope (via Change Orders)
Be able to project cost on all aspects of a project
Provide specialty budgeting or other pre-contract documents necessary
Be able to document a complete project & all associated data
Track and stay in integrity with personal goals
Work effectively and provide feedback to supervisors where improvements could be made
Manage time, tasks, responsibilities with intention and ease
Delegate responsibly and as needed, with clarity, authority and respect
Experience / Education / Licensure
High School diploma required, Bachelor’s Degree desired. A formal education in business or marketing is preferred
Valid California driver’s license and auto insurance
Held similar position for at least 2 years
Literacy in Apple OSX, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Familiarity with Apple and Microsoft operating systems and their mobile counterparts
Clear knowledge of audio/video and control system devices
Highly organized individual
Aptitude for understanding and assisting others with technology
Willingness to travel to industry training events
Work Environment
Job duties are performed in the Company’s offices/warehouse as well as various jobsite locations throughout Southern California.
Physical Requirements

Operate a motor vehicle
Stand or walk 30% and sit 70% of the time
Lift and carry up to 30 lbs for a distance of up to 30 feet
Visually distinguish between different colors
Detect and retrieve messages over the phone
Bend, reach and retrieve filing
Working at desk using computer (typing and mousing) 60% of the time; roll, unroll, and move blueprints weighing up to 10 lbs. 10% of the time
Work Schedule
40 to 50 hours per week as required to maintain projects with a favorable outcome. Weekends and after hours meetings may be required by clients or other trades.
